Garjia Temple

Located on a large rock in the middle of the river Kosi, the temple has many interesting facts, stories and beliefs according to the locals of the village like ‘Garjia’ is another name for goddess Parvati – daughter of Himavat, the king of the mountains. Some of the locals even say that a devotee of Lord Shiva asked Garjia – his sister, to marry Kosi and reside there to control the over flooded river Kosi. Girjia being one of the representations of goddess Parvati, enthroned the entire place with her existence and since then the river has not flooded.

Famous stories and interesting facts like these are what makes it is one of the most famous temples in Ramnagar. Situated on the suburbs of the Garjia Village, the temple is at a distance of 14kms away from Ramnagar and thus is a Must Visit!

Kartik Poornima – the festival of lights of gods is celebrated here with full devotion. The place is lit with diyas which gives a beautiful view over the river.
